North Carolina's First Buc-ee's Coming to Mebane

The Tar Heel State is finally getting a Buc-ee's! Construction has begun in Mebane, with an expected opening of May 2027.

Groundbreaking and Construction

Buc-ee's has broken ground on its first North Carolina location in Alamance County on Trollingwood-Hawfields Road in Mebane. The hilly site is currently being leveled and graded, with workers managing erosion while preparing the land.

The City of Mebane has issued many permits related to site development, but Buc-ee's has yet to submit permits for the main store building.

Location

The travel center will be at Exit 152 on I-85/I-40, making it easily accessible for travelers on one of the busiest interstate corridors in the Southeast.

Store Specifications

74,000 square feet - one of the largest in the country
120 gas pumps
200+ jobs anticipated

Road Construction

NCDOT is constructing a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 152, with road construction expected to be complete by summer 2027. The DOT has confirmed that road work should not interfere with Buc-ee's groundbreaking or opening.

Community Response

The Mebane City Council approved bringing Buc-ee's to the city with a 5-0 vote in January after eight hours of vigorous debate from community members. The decision reflects both excitement and careful consideration of the impacts a major travel center brings to a community.
