Buc-ee's San Marcos, Hays County, Texas (TX) - Coming May 2026

A massive 74,707 square foot Buc-ee's is under construction in San Marcos along I-35, expected to open May 26, 2026.

San Marcos Getting Texas' Newest Buc-ee's

San Marcos is set to welcome a brand new Buc-ee's travel center on May 26, 2026, adding another stop along the busy Interstate 35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio.

Groundbreaking and Construction

Buc-ee's broke ground on the San Marcos location in January 2025 after over a year of planning. Construction is progressing well, with walls rising and crews on track for the 2026 opening.

Location

The new travel center is being built on a 22-acre site at Yarrington Road and Interstate 35 on the north side of San Marcos. The location is strategic but notably close to other Buc-ee's stores - just 20 miles north of the famous New Braunfels location and 40 miles from the Bastrop travel center.

Store Specifications

  • 74,707 square feet of retail space
  • $47 million investment
  • 120 fueling stations
  • Electric vehicle charging capacity
  • Rainwater reclamation system
  • Oil/water separators for stormwater management

Why So Close to New Braunfels?

According to Buc-ee's founder Arch "Beaver" Aplin III: "It is close, and it is closer than we've ever put two travel centers, that is true... But Interstate 35 is kind of developing and growing so fast we just felt like we needed one on the southbound side."

Employment

The mega travel center will bring at least 175 full-time jobs to the area with:

  • Starting pay of $18 per hour
  • Full benefits
  • 6% matching 401(k)
  • Three weeks of paid vacation
