Buc-ee's Wharton, Wharton County, Texas (TX) - Open Since July 1, 2009
Buc-ee's Wharton opened on July 1, 2009, just in time for Fourth of July weekend traffic after construction delays from Hurricane Ike.
Post-Hurricane Ike Opening
Buc-ee's opened its Wharton location on July 1, 2009, opening at noon that day. The store was originally scheduled to open in January 2009, but Hurricane Ike's September 2008 impact created building material shortages that delayed construction.
Opening Day
Buc-ee's President Beaver Aplin noted at the time: "This is simply the soonest we could get it open. In particular, we wanted to get it open before this Fourth of July holiday because we know this is a weekend with a lot of traffic."
Development History
The possibility of Buc-ee's locating to Wharton was first discussed during the city's 2006-07 fiscal year. The arrangements included a $750,000 Texas Capital Fund grant and $850,000 in bond funds.
